Cultivating a responsive heart of love for Jesus requires intentionality. You must pursue him deliberately. Without sufficient intensity in our pursuit of intimacy with God, we will drift away.
Love does not grow automatically. Rather, it automatically diminishes unless we intentionally cultivate it. Without an active cultivation of love for God, the flow and energy of this world and our carnal flesh will cause us to drift away. For this reason the Spirit of God reminds us to pay attention.
Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
Drifting is often subtle, difficult to notice at first. But without cultivating a hunger for God, we will one day awaken and realize we have drifted far from him.
Never forget this truth: It is easier to stay up than to catch up. Start today. Start now. Ask God to awaken you, to draw you unto himself, and then respond in believing obedience.
