God with us. That is one of the names of Jesus. Most everyone knows that because of the stories they have heard about Christmas. Matthew was told In a dream by an angel of the Lord that Jesus would fulfill one of the prophecies for the Messiah— All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet, “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us” (Matthew 1:20-23).
The fact that God is with us is really good news. Jesus is with us on the mountaintop, in the valley, in the desert, and in the plain of fruitfulness.
I am so grateful that the Living God has left a clear witness in our culture about the good news of Jesus. At Christmas, each of us experiences many reminders that God is with us— we hear the songs of worship during the Christmas season, we see the beauty of the Lord reflected in the lights of Christmas, we seek to emulate the Father who knows how to give good gifts by giving gifts at Christmas, and we see many good deeds inspired by the love of God demonstrated in this season we call Christmas.
And, many people in our culture will feel the desire to go to church somewhere during the Christmas season.
I want you to feel welcome to come to our church on Christmas. More than likely you are going to go somewhere. So, I want to invite you to come join us as we celebrate this Christmas season.
And, I want to challenge others to make the ask. Since your friends, family, and neighbors are thinking of going somewhere for Christmas, why not ask them to come with you to church for Christmas?
Christmas is about really good news. That good news is found in a living person— in Jesus, God’s Son, who is Immanuel, God with us. The good news is that he is with you, too. Join us as we talk about the good news of the Living God in this Christmas season.
